About agriculture in Pamfila

Pamfila is located on the eastern coast of the island of Lesbos in the North Aegean region, just a few kilometers north of the capital city, Mytilene. The surrounding rural landscape is defined by its proximity to the sea and a backdrop of rolling hills densely covered with ancient olive groves that have shaped the territory for centuries.

The agricultural economy of the area is almost entirely centered on olive cultivation, producing world-renowned olive oil from local varieties. In addition to these vast plantations, the region supports small-scale livestock farming, primarily sheep and goats used for traditional dairy products, as well as family-run vegetable gardens and citrus orchards.

For farm workers and agronomists, the primary labor demand occurs during the intensive olive harvest season, typically running from late autumn through mid-winter. Opportunities include manual harvesting, orchard maintenance, and technical roles within local olive presses, where knowledge of modern extraction and storage techniques is increasingly valued.
