About agriculture in Aligarh

Aligarh is a small town located in the Tonk district of Rajasthan, India, situated in the eastern semi-arid part of the state. The surrounding rural landscape consists of vast, relatively flat plains interspersed with agricultural fields, scattered thorny vegetation, and seasonal water bodies. The soils here are a mixture of sandy loam and alluvial deposits, which support a variety of crops despite the region's overall dry climate and reliance on monsoon rains and borewells.

Agriculture is the primary source of livelihood in the Aligarh area, characterized by a mix of food grains and oilseed cultivation. During the winter (Rabi) season, the fields are covered with bright yellow mustard crops, alongside wheat and barley, while the summer (Kharif) season sees the cultivation of pearl millet (bajra), sorghum (jowar), and hardy pulses. Livestock rearing is also deeply integrated into the local farming system, with many households keeping dairy cattle, buffaloes, goats, and sheep to supplement their income and provide organic manure.

For agronomists and seasonal farm workers, Aligarh offers active employment opportunities primarily during the peak harvesting and sowing seasons in spring (March-April) and autumn (September-October). Agronomists are increasingly in demand to advise on water-use efficiency, drip irrigation systems, and soil nutrient management to combat salinity issues. Laborers will find work in manual harvesting, crop threshing, and livestock management, with rustic living conditions and traditional village-centered employment dynamics.
