About agriculture in Kamma

Kamma is situated on the eastern side of the island of Pantelleria, within the Sicilian region. The landscape is characterized by its volcanic origin, featuring rugged coastlines, terraced hillsides, and the iconic stone houses known as dammusi that dot the rural countryside between the Mediterranean Sea and the island's interior peaks.

The local agriculture is renowned for its specialization in high-quality products adapted to the windy and arid climate. It is the heart of Zibibbo grape cultivation, grown using the traditional alberello pantesco method which is recognized as UNESCO heritage, as well as the production of world-famous Pantelleria capers and aromatic olive oil from hardy, low-growing trees.

Agronomists and farm workers will find seasonal opportunities primarily during the caper picking season from May to August and the grape harvest in late summer. The work is physically demanding due to the intensive manual labor required on steep terraces and the unique island climate, offering a specialized environment for those interested in traditional Mediterranean viticulture and horticulture.
