About agriculture in Zougounou

Zougounou is located in the Yamoussoukro Autonomous District in central Côte d’Ivoire. The area is characterized by a transition between the southern forest zone and the northern savanna, offering a landscape of rolling plains and fertile soils. The rural surroundings are a mix of wooded areas and cleared fields, typical of the central plateau's geography.

Agriculture here is dominated by both cash crops and food crops. Farmers cultivate cocoa and coffee for export, while local markets are supplied with yams, cassava, and maize. The region also sees growing interest in rice cultivation in lowland areas and small-scale poultry farming to meet the needs of the nearby urban center.

Agronomists and farm workers will find a landscape of smallholder farms and emerging commercial plantations. Seasonal labor is most needed during the cocoa and coffee harvests, usually occurring in two main cycles throughout the year. The proximity to the capital, Yamoussoukro, provides better logistics and access to agricultural inputs compared to more remote regions.
