About agriculture in Rus

Rus is a charming town located in the province of Jaén, within the autonomous community of Andalusia, Spain. It sits amidst the rolling hills of the Guadalquivir valley, where the landscape is characterized by an endless sea of olive groves that stretch to the horizon, interrupted only by traditional white farmsteads and small streams.

The local economy is almost entirely centered on the cultivation of olives for high-quality olive oil production. The region's fertile soil and Mediterranean climate also support some dryland crops like cereals, though the vast majority of farms are dedicated to specialized olive farming. Livestock activities are minimal but may include small-scale sheep or goat grazing in the less cultivated areas.

For agronomists and seasonal workers, Rus offers significant opportunities during the intensive olive harvest season, typically from late autumn through winter. Labor is needed for both manual and mechanized harvesting, as well as for work in local olive mills (almazaras). Technical roles for agronomists often focus on irrigation management and pest control to ensure the health of the groves throughout the year.
