About agriculture in Gemlik

Gemlik is a coastal town located on the shores of the Sea of Marmara in the Bursa province of northwestern Turkey. The city is nestled at the head of the Gulf of Gemlik, surrounded by rolling hills and fertile lowlands that transition into the Samanlı Mountains to the north, providing a diverse landscape of maritime and mountainous terrain.

The region is internationally renowned for its olive cultivation, producing some of the highest quality table olives in the Mediterranean. Beyond the vast olive groves that dominate the landscape, local farmers also cultivate various fruits such as pears and peaches, taking advantage of the mild maritime climate and rich, well-drained soil typical of the Bursa region.

Agronomists and seasonal workers will find numerous opportunities during the olive harvest, which typically takes place in late autumn and early winter. The local economy relies heavily on both the cultivation and industrial processing of olives, offering roles in grove management, harvest coordination, and positions within modern olive oil production and packaging facilities.
