About agriculture in Çaykara

Located in the Eastern Black Sea region of Turkey within the Trabzon province, Çaykara is nestled in a deep, lush valley along the Solaklı River. The surrounding landscape is characterized by dramatic mountains, dense forests, and alpine meadows that rise sharply from the riverbanks towards the high Kaçkar peaks. This rugged terrain creates a unique microclimate influenced by both the humid sea air and the cool mountain elevations.

Agriculture in this mountainous district is shaped by the steep terrain and high rainfall. Tea plantations occupy the lower slopes, while the higher elevations are primarily used for cattle grazing in traditional highland pastures known as yaylas. Beekeeping is also a significant activity, producing high-quality mountain honey from the diverse local flora, while small-scale cultivation of corn and hazelnuts occurs in more accessible patches.

For agronomists and farm workers, the area offers opportunities primarily in the tea harvest and livestock management. Due to the steep slopes, much of the work remains manual, requiring physical endurance in a humid environment. Seasonal demand peaks during the tea-picking cycles from late spring to autumn, and during the summer months when cattle are moved to high-altitude grazing grounds for dairy production.
