About agriculture in Nansana

Nansana is located in the Wakiso District within the Central Region of Uganda, situated just northwest of the capital city, Kampala. The area is characterized by a transition from dense urban settlements to lush, rolling hills and fertile valleys. As you move towards the outskirts, the landscape opens up into a mosaic of small-scale farms and green spaces typical of the Lake Victoria crescent.

Agriculture in the vicinity of Nansana is diverse, focusing on both food security and cash crops. Local farmers extensively cultivate matooke (cooking bananas), cassava, sweet potatoes, and maize. Due to its proximity to urban markets, there is a significant emphasis on poultry farming, piggery, and commercial vegetable production, with many smallholders utilizing intensive farming methods to supply the growing population.

For agronomists and farm laborers, Nansana serves as a strategic hub for peri-urban agricultural services. Employment opportunities often revolve around specialized livestock management, greenhouse operations, and agricultural supply chains. While much of the work is year-round due to the favorable climate, there is peak demand during the planting and harvesting seasons of the primary cereal crops.
