About agriculture in Bolhrad
Bolhrad is situated in the southern part of the Odesa region, in the heart of the historical Budjak region. It lies on the banks of Lake Yalpuh, the largest natural lake in Ukraine. The surrounding landscape consists of vast, flat plains with fertile black soil, typical of the southern Ukrainian steppe.
The region is widely renowned for its extensive viticulture and Bessarabian winemaking traditions. In addition to vineyards, local farms produce significant quantities of winter wheat, barley, and sunflowers. Fruit orchards and sheep farming are also common agricultural activities in this sun-drenched area.
Farm workers can find high seasonal demand during the grape and fruit harvests, typically from late summer through autumn. For agronomists, there are opportunities in both large-scale agricultural enterprises and specialized wineries. Due to the dry climate, experience with irrigation systems and drought-resistant crop management is highly valued.
