About agriculture in Sarare

Sarare is the administrative center of the Simón Planas Municipality in the state of Lara, Venezuela. Situated in the southeastern part of the region, it occupies a strategic location where the foothills of the Andes meet the northern reaches of the Llanos plains. The surrounding landscape is characterized by the Sarare River basin, featuring a mix of rolling hills and fertile lowlands that create a diverse rural environment.

The agricultural economy of the Sarare area is heavily focused on large-scale crop production and livestock. Sugar cane is one of the most prominent crops in this district, supported by the local water resources and favorable climate. In addition to cane, farmers in the region cultivate significant amounts of corn and sorghum, while the expansive plains provide ample grazing land for both beef and dairy cattle operations.

For agronomists and seasonal farm workers, Sarare offers opportunities primarily linked to the sugar and grain cycles. The sugar cane harvest, or zafra, creates peak demand for labor and technical oversight of processing and transport. Workers coming to the area can expect a tropical climate with distinct wet and dry seasons, where most activities revolve around the management of large estates and irrigation systems.
