About agriculture in Morgex

Morgex is located in the heart of the Valdigne, the upper part of the Aosta Valley in northwest Italy. Situated at the foot of the Mont Blanc massif, the town is surrounded by a dramatic alpine landscape characterized by steep slopes and the Dora Baltea river valley. The rural surroundings are a mix of dense coniferous forests and carefully terraced hillsides that have been adapted for cultivation despite the high altitude.

The area is most famous for its heroic viticulture, hosting some of the highest vineyards in Europe. The primary crop is the Prié Blanc grape, used to produce the renowned Valle d'Aosta DOC Blanc de Morgex et de La Salle. Beyond wine production, the local economy relies on traditional dairy farming, particularly the breeding of Valdostana cattle for the production of Fontina cheese, as well as small-scale cultivation of mountain potatoes and forage crops.

For agronomists and farm workers, Morgex offers specialized opportunities in high-altitude viticulture and alpine livestock management. Seasonal demand peaks during the grape harvest in late summer and autumn, as well as during the summer months when cattle are moved to high-altitude pastures (alpages). Jobs typically involve vineyard maintenance, manual harvesting on steep terrains, and assistance in traditional dairy production facilities.
