About agriculture in Inaruwa

Inaruwa is the headquarters of Sunsari District, located in the fertile Koshi Province of southeastern Nepal. Situated in the flat Terai plains, the town is surrounded by a sprawling rural landscape dominated by lush green fields, irrigation canals fed by the nearby Koshi River, and traditional farming hamlets. The terrain is exceptionally flat and characterized by alluvial soil highly suitable for intensive cultivation.

The agriculture of the Inaruwa area is highly diverse and productive, typical of the Terai region. Rice is the primary staple crop, extensively cultivated during the monsoon season, followed by wheat, maize, and lentils in the drier months. Cash crops such as sugarcane, mustard, and various seasonal vegetables are also widely grown, alongside livestock farming including cattle, water buffaloes, and poultry which support the local farm economy.

For agronomists and farm workers, Inaruwa offers opportunities primarily during the peak planting and harvesting seasons of rice and sugarcane. Local agricultural offices, cooperatives, and commercial farms often seek expertise in soil management, irrigation efficiency, and pest control. Visitors can expect a warm, sub-tropical climate, and while high-tech machinery is slowly being introduced, much of the daily field labor remains traditional and physically demanding.
